We're thrilled to announce that the San Luis Valley Chapter of Boredomfighters, led by the incredible Melody Monroe, has just been awarded a $3,000 grant from Saguache County to bring ongoing music production programming to the students of Crestone Charter and Moffat Schools!
This exciting milestone marks a major step in uniting the talents of local creators with the educational needs of rural communities. Nestled in the mountains, the two schools in the Saguache Valley have historically struggled to provide steady music programs due to limited funding and the absence of full-time music teachers. But that’s where Boredomfighters comes in. We believe in bridging that gap, and the San Luis Valley Chapter is doing just that.
The chapter kicked off its programming with a strong start, partnering with local schools to offer weekly music studio sessions. These programs are designed to connect students with musical role models—producers, vocalists, and instrumentalists—who live right in their community. Through these sessions, students will learn to produce their own music, build live performance sets, and even co-produce local events where they can open for their musical heroes!
The heart of this initiative is the collaboration and passion from local partners and supporters. A huge thank you goes out to Melody for her leadership in starting this chapter, to Crestone Performances for hosting us at Coyote Mountain, and to Gigi Douglas of New Sky Ranch for connecting the dots that made this all possible. We’re also incredibly grateful to Kristy Knight for helping us expand our reach to Crestone Charter School, as well as to T-Road Brewery and Elephant Cloud Market for offering their spaces to make music with the grownups in the community.
This grant will further fuel our mission to empower students through music, creativity, and hands-on learning. We're excited to see where this journey will take the students of the Valley and are honored to continue building meaningful music programs in underserved communities.
Stay tuned for updates as we roll out more exciting projects and events in San Luis Valley!
